    Daring to be different

141am. Just a quick entry before I head for some rest at my workplace. Countdown to going home later in the afternoon! That's the only thing that keeps me going on a long night like this.

Recently, I've been thinking about "daring to be different". I believe a good majority of us tend to "follow the crowd / norm", and try not to be outstanding for fear of discrimination and unwanted attention. But many a times it is the spirit of "daring to be different" that differentiates a successful person from the average. For example, in a group of people each dressed in a shirt and a necktie, how can one "dare to be different" and stand out from the rest? Just by wearing, not a necktie, but a bowtie! By being different and standing out from the crowd, people will tend to notice you more, and take note of your actions. Of course, make sure your actions are positively-received, if not the attention that you get from daring to be different may very well backfire.

Hence, don't be afraid of standing out from the rest. Remember the entry about the way I dress during work and how it brought about some upset among the people in my workplace? I shouldn't be too mindful about what people say as long as I feel happy and comfortable in whatever I dress in! After all, it is never possible to please everyone! What I have to bear in mind is to make my actions positively-received so as not to allow this additional attention on me backfire.

Hence my fellow readers, don't be afraid that you'll stick out like a sore thumb when you try something new (unless it's really drastic and 100% of people disagree with you).

Take the first step, dare to be different.
